Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026
RootsPrint ("we", "us") is designed to be private by default. This policy explains what data the app uses, where it is stored, and the limited third-party services involved when you visit the website.
Your family tree data stays on your device
The family trees you create - names, dates, relationships, notes, and photos - are stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB. This data is never transmitted to us or to any server. We have no accounts, no user database, and no way to see your trees. Importing and exporting GEDCOM or JSON files happens entirely on your device.
Because the data lives in your browser, clearing your browser storage or using a different device/browser will mean the trees are not there. Use the export feature to back up your work.
Local storage and cookies
We use a small amount of local browser storage strictly to remember your preferences:
- Language - a
ft_langvalue (cookie and local storage) so the site opens in your chosen language. - Appearance - a
ft_themevalue (local storage) to remember light or dark mode. - Your trees - stored in IndexedDB as described above.
These are functional and are not used to track you across other websites.
Analytics
We may use privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics) to understand overall traffic. Where used, this analytics is cookieless and does not identify individual visitors.
Advertising
To keep the tool free, the website may display advertising provided by Google, including Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visitingGoogle Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
Advertising is shown only on our informational pages. Your family tree data is never shared with advertisers - it is not accessible to us in the first place.
Children's privacy
The site is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we do not collect personal data at all, no such information is gathered by us.
Your choices
You are always in control: export or delete your trees at any time from within the editor, clear your browser storage to remove all local data, and adjust ad personalization through the links above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
